Title: Strings and Arithmetic

Abstract: I shall explain a recent discovery linking p-adic string theory and arithmetic geometry at a basic level: the boundary two point function of a p-adic string coincides with the Neron local height pairing, on a curve over a p-adic local field. The result was first found explicitly on a Tate curve, and then generalized with the assistance of Meta AI. Yuri Manin had a visionary article in this general direction in the late 1980s.
