Title: Monoidal Categories

Abstract: In this talk, we will begin looking at monoidal categories. We will give a definition that highlights how these categories can be viewed as a “categorification” of the notion of a monoid. Many of the categories we are already familiar with can be seen as monoidal categories, which we will discuss through a few basic examples. Note that the remainder of Chapter 1 has been postponed until it may be more relevant to our discussions; say, for example, in Chapter 4.
