Whether you're just starting out, back for another year, or joining us for grad studies or research - we're glad you're here. The faculty and staff are around to help, so don't be shy about asking.
We have two new faculty members to introduce this year: David White and Abdul Zalloum. You will enjoy getting to know them.
Meet our new Professors
Dr. David White (Associate Professor) works in homotopy theory, applied statistics, and computer science. This year he is teaching Introductory Applied Probability (STAT 252) in the Fall and Linear Algebra II (MATH/MTHE 212) in the Winter.
David is keen to supervise undergraduate and graduate research, so if you are curious about an independent study or a thesis project, get in touch with him.
Dr. Abdul Zalloum (Assistant Professor) conducts research is in geometric group theory: generalizations of hyperbolicity, boundaries of groups, CAT(0) spaces, and growth. He is teaching Introduction to Real Analysis (MATH/MTHE 281) and Introduction to Topology (MATH 347), both in the Winter.
Abdul is looking to mentor students on research projects and supervise grad students - undergrads interested in his group are welcome to reach out.
A few ways to make the most of the year
Need help with a course?
There are tutorials, peer-assisted study groups, and office hours. Schedules are on the department website under the undergraduate and graduate sections.
Want research experience?
Talk to your instructors or the undergraduate studies director about summer projects, independent studies, and working with faculty - including our new colleagues.
Want to meet people?
Join a student society, drop in on a seminar or colloquium, or get involved in math outreach. It's a good way to find your people and see some math you wouldn't otherwise run into.
We are excited about the year ahead. Questions about courses, advising, or getting involved? The department website is the place to start.
Welcome back - have a great year!
