First Virtual 3MT for Queen's

13th May 2020

Today we held our postponed 2020 heat 1 of our  annual 3 Minute Thesis Competition, but virtual.  Due to the obvious disruptions from Covid-19 this year, it was important to the School of Graduate Studies to continue on with programming as best we could.

Our graduate students rallied behind the chance to try doing the event virtually and they did not dissapoint us.  So from Victoria, BC to downtown Kingston we listened via a live stream to the amaziing research our graduate students are doing.  At that was just the first heat.

congratulations go to Alastair Kierulf (Chemistry), Katya Douchant (Biomedical & Molecular Sciences), Alice Santilli (Computing) and People's Choice Iman Abdali Mashhadi (Electrical & Computer Engineering) who will all go through to the final on Thursday 21st May (starts at 3pm)

Putting on an event like this was really a collaborative effort.  The School of Graduate Studies had support from Queen's Information Technology Services and Audio Visual Services and our judges for heat 1 were from SASS, Career Services and Institutional Research & Planning. Of course the students themselves went above and beyond to find stable internet connections.
