Immunizations (also known as vaccines) are the best way to protect against serious illnesses. Most vaccines are given in childhood or early adolescence (see Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules for Ontario), but it is strongly recommended that students make sure their vaccines are up to date.
We are only able to provide vaccinations to current students (i.e., not partners, children, staff or faculty). If someone does not have a primary health care provider, they can book online to get vaccinated at the local Southeast Public Health unit.
Recommended vaccines
- COVID-19 – yearly booster available
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Human Papillomavirus (Gardasil-9)
- Influenza (Flu) – yearly booster available
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Meningococcal Conjugate (Men-C-C)
- Meningococcal Quadrivalent (A, C, Y, W-135)
- Meningococcal Sero B (Men-B)
- Pneumococcal-C-13
- Polio (IPV)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
People who are eligible can get a two-dose vaccine which can be used to protect against Mpox. For more information about Mpox including who is eligible for the vaccine, see the Southeast Public Health and/or the Government of Canada websites.
How to Check Vaccination Records
People are responsible for keeping a record of their vaccines (i.e., immunizations). This may have been done by parents or supporters through an immunization card. Students can download CANImmunize.ca app to track vaccines online. Students who grew up in Ontario can login to Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) to access immunizations reported by their local public health agency.
Where to look for vaccine records
- Healthcare providers
- Local public health unit
- Pharmacies
- Hospitals, urgent care or walk-in clinics
- Past employers (i.e., health-care or military agencies) or schools
If unable to find vaccine records
Students without a record of their immunizations may need to repeat some vaccines as it is not harmful to receive an additional dose. For some immunizations, blood tests may determine if students are already immune to certain diseases.
Student Wellness Services will support students who need immunizations to meet academic program requirements.
Travel Vaccinations
We do not provide consultations or administer travel immunizations. For a thorough travel health needs assessment, including vaccines, connect with a travel vaccination clinic.
