Indigenous Research Collaboration Day

Location

Join faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and community members for the 10th annual Indigenous Research Collaboration Day (IRCD) on Wednesday, November 11, from 11:30am-4:30pm (light lunch at 11:30).

Begun in 2017, the day is intended to foster a research training environment that is founded on ethical and responsible conduct of research involving Indigenous peoples and communities. The theme of this year’s event is “Indigenous Research, Wellness, and Community.”

Join fellow faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, staff members, and community to learn about and discuss principles, strategies, and tools for personal and community wellness when building relationships and collaborating with Indigenous communities. The event includes a keynote address from Dr. Kim Anderson (University of Guelph), a panel discussion, a student poster session, and breakout discussions to build towards improved practices, sharing, and learning.

We hope to foster broad engagement, bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics, students, staff, faculty, community members, and invited guests in conversation. All are welcome to attend, regardless of research area. The event is of value to those conducting research within the Canadian context, more globally, and those simply wishing to learn more.

The event is co-organized by representatives from the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Vice-Principal Research Portfolio, Office of the Rector, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.

Outcomes

The IRDC supports broader institutional initiatives, including Queen’s Strategic Goals and Strategic Research Plan, which prioritize reconciliation and decolonization, and ethical, reciprocal community engagement. In addition, the learnings from the day will inform a report on the day that may be shared with the university community as well as the Dimensions Recognition Program, led at Queen’s by the Vice-Principal Portfolio. For more about the Dimensions program, see the Gazette article, Expanding Research Excellence at Queen’s through Dimensions.
