Yesterday afternoon the Government of Canada released a policy statement and initiated a process to establish guidelines and tools for assisting in adjudicating national security considerations of research partnerships. A Government of Canada-Universities Working Group has been tasked to develop recommendations.

At this time Queen’s researchers are not required to take any additional steps; due diligence is, however, always appropriate to ensure the safeguarding of research activity. Earlier this year, the Government of Canada created a Safeguarding Your Research portal which you are encouraged to review. In addition, the Research Legal Services unit is available to assist in assessing any concerns of the Queen’s Research Community and should be contacted before undertaking formal partnership agreements.

We will keep the research community updated as this process unfolds. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to reach out via reasearch@queensu.ca
