Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2026-2031 (MYAP)

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2026-2031 (MYAP)

As part of Queen’s University’s commitment to accessibility, diversity, and inclusion, a high-level overview of the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2026-2031 (MYAP) has been made available to the wider Queen’s community for consultation and feedback. Consultation on the MYAP will conclude on March 20, 2026. Please ensure your feedback is provided by this date.

This MYAP is both a roadmap and a commitment. It sets out priorities for the next five years and establishes clear mechanisms for implementation, accountability, and transparency. It also affirms our belief that accessibility is integral to academic excellence, institutional resilience, and the wellbeing of our campus community.

Accessibility is a shared responsibility, and this plan will guide how the university advances accessibility across campus in the years ahead. Because it reflects the university’s commitments and priorities, it is essential that it be shaped by the people who experience our spaces, services, and systems every day. We especially encourage feedback from disabled students, staff, faculty, and community members, whose lived experiences and insights are vital to building a more accessible and inclusive Queen’s.

While informed by legislative requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and our institutional equity commitments, this plan must be shaped by lived experience and community insight. We invite the Queen’s community to review the draft and share feedback. Your input will help ensure that this plan reflects real barriers, meaningful opportunities, and collective responsibility.

Once adopted, the final Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2026-2031 will be shared with the full campus community.

This MYAP outlines the next phase of growth. It reflects where we have been, where we are now, and where we are intentionally working to go as a community dedicated to inclusion, equity, and the success of all students and employees. The aim of implementing this Multi-Year Accessibility Plan for 2026-2031 at Queen’s is to think of it as a living practice that grows over time through shared commitment, care, and attention.

This Plan is grounded in the idea that accessibility thrives when the conditions for it are deliberately tended. Just as a healthy garden requires rich soil, strong roots, intentional planting, and ongoing care, an accessible institution depends on the systems, relationships, and practices that sustain it. The Garden of Accessibility framework that informs this plan helps us see accessibility as interconnected and shared work – this is work that must be rooted in strong foundations, nurtured through thoughtful action, and continuously renewed through reflection and adaptation.
