Policy

Queen’s University is dedicated to the values of truth, responsibility, respect, freedom, and wellbeing. This Policy is designed to ensure resources, access, and services that are restricted based on Indigenous identity are allocated to students with verified Indigenous identity. Such resources, access, and services can include, but are not limited to admission to a program or degree, scholarships, bursaries, awards, fellowships, funding for travel and/or conferences, or targeted student support and/or programing.

Indigenous identity is to be verified based on submission of documentation listed on Queen’s Undergraduate Admission website.

Indigenous documentation will be collected, secured, and managed by the Office of the University Registrar under the authority and oversight of the Office of Indigenous Initiatives.


Purpose

To establish university-wide policy ensuring resources, access, and services specified for Indigenous students are distributed to students with verified Indigenous identify, e.g.:

  • Financial Awards
  • Support Services
  • Additional Resources (e.g., travel stipends, conference fees, etc.)

Scope

This policy applies all to registered students. The Indigenous identity of a registered student seeking to obtain resources, access, and services designated for Indigenous students is to be verified based on submission of documentation listed on Queen’s Undergraduate Admission website.

Responsibilities

Office of Indigenous Initiatives – Verification of Indigenous documentation that is collected, secured, and managed by the Office of the University Registrar for the purpose of administering the Policy, per the information on Queen’s Undergraduate Admission website.

Office of the University Registrar – Collection, security, and management of documentation related to a registered student’s Indigenous identity
