Introduction
Dr. Kevin Kee, Artsci’92, MA’94, PhD’99, is Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen's University and a Professor in the Department of History and the School of Computing. An internationally recognized digital humanist, historian, and academic leader, he is known for advancing interdisciplinary research, innovation in teaching and learning, and the integration of the humanities and technology.
Before joining Queen's in 2026, Dr. Kee served for a decade as Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa, where he led one of Canada's largest arts faculties through a period of significant growth and transformation. During his tenure, the Faculty expanded research excellence, strengthened interdisciplinary and experiential learning, launched innovative learning and research spaces, and developed new academic and lifelong learning programs. As Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Strategy and Learning Innovation, he also helped shape the university's digital transformation and teaching innovation agenda.
A champion of the humanities in the age of artificial intelligence, Dr. Kee led the University of Ottawa's Human Intelligence initiative, which highlights the uniquely human capacities of creativity, critical thinking, ethical judgment, and empathy as essential complements to emerging technologies. His leadership has consistently focused on preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing world by combining cultural understanding, technological fluency, and entrepreneurial thinking.
He started his academic career at McGill University, where he served as Assistant Professor and a Director of Undergraduate Programs. He has been a Project Director and Director at the National Film Board of Canada, and Associate Vice-President Research at Brock University, where he held a Canada Research Chair in Digital Humanities. He has authored numerous books and scholarly publications and been honoured with awards and prizes for his research, teaching, and leadership.
