
The FAS Communications team is here for you! We are responsible for the development and implementation of the Faculty’s marketing and communications strategies and plans, working collaboratively with other offices and units across campus, including other faculties, Admissions, the School of Graduate Studies, University Relations and more.
In addition to strategic initiatives, the team performs a wide range of duties for the Faculty, such as:
- Developing communications for the FAS leadership, from written correspondence to presentations, proposals, reports, and annual reviews
- Managing media, public relations and issues for the Faculty Office
- Supporting departments by coordinating with the Faculty leadership and Queen’s central communications to provide advice and guidance for managing media, public relations and issues
- Storytelling and news reporting for the Faculty Office and departments
- Delivering bi-weekly student and faculty and staff e-newsletters
- Maintaining a calendar of important dates, deadlines and special events
- Managing FAS websites (queensu.ca/artsci and https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online)
- Managing FAS social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube)
- Managing the display cases in Mac-Corry Hall, which are available to departments upon request
To support student recruitment, the team also:
- performs market research
- produces publications and materials (viewbooks, major maps, banners, swag, etc.)
- promotes recruitment events (Fall Preview, March Break Open House, SOAR, Think Grad Studies Days, Major’s Night, OUF, graduate recruitment fairs, webinars, receptions, etc.),
- conducts advertising campaigns for the Faculty as well as specific departments and units

Communicators Community of Practice
The Communicators Community of Practice is for staff and faculty members in FAS schools, departments, and units who have responsibilities related to marketing and communications.
Our Community of Practice is one of the recommendations made by our Communications Department for the Faculty’s Strategy for Enrichment in Service (SEEES), based on feedback from our schools, departments, and units as well as members of the previous FAS Communications Working Group.
Our Community of Practice will provide opportunities for collaboration, best practice, information sharing between staff across FAS as well as training.

Support for Departments
Departments can engage with the Communications team for support in marketing new programs as well as communications related issues management.
There are many other things that the team can do to support departments in their marketing, communications, and recruitment efforts. The following are 10 examples:
- Department communications strategies and plans
- Conducting market research and sharing information on marketing and industry-specific trends Course, certificate, major / minor, and graduate program promotional strategies and plans
- Funding and in-kind support for departmental graduate marketing, communications, and recruitment activities
- Advertising campaigns and media recommendations and buys
- Providing Industry contacts (videographers, photographers, content writers, editors)
- Designing and ordering publications and promotional materials, including swag, banners, and print materials
- Advising on departmental website and social media strategies and management
- Media relations and storytelling, amplifying departmental news and success stories
- Hosting the FAS Communicators Community of Practice (see below)
