Mandate

The Queen’s University Board-Senate Advisory Committee (QUBSAC) is a joint committee of the University Senate and the Board of Trustees. Its mandate is to ensure sound Board-Senate relations, to discuss opportunities for Board-Senate collaboration, and to provide advice to the Principal and University Secretary regarding matters of strategic importance to the university and Board-Senate relations while respecting the jurisdictions of the University Senate, the Board of Trustees.
In fulfilling its mandate, QUBSAC should not duplicate the work of any other standing or ad hoc committee or body within the University, but may raise issues, questions, and concerns that affect the strategic direction of the University and refer the study of them to appropriate bodies within the University’s governance structure as necessary.
QUBSAC may meet twice in the fall and winter terms or more often at the call of the Co-Chairs or upon agreement of the membership as circumstances require.

Responsibilities

QUBSAC is responsible for the following:

1. Serving as a consultation partner for the Principal and/or University Secretary, providing advice and feedback as requested from time to time on matters of importance to the university and Board-Senate relations, whether they be current initiatives or as issues arise. QUBSAC may   gather views of members of the University Senate, Board of Trustees, and/or the Queen’s community for the purpose of providing such advice to the Principal and/or Secretary.
2. Developing and approving a series of opportunities and events for formal and informal interaction of the University Senate and Board of Trustees, including but not limited to large group retreats, strategic sessions, and assemblies, and small group meetings and engagements, to promote Board-Senate communication and discussion on matters concerning new or emerging issues in the post-secondary environment and that may impact the direction and focus of the university.

Composition 

Elected :

• Two faculty senators, selected by Senate
• One student senator, selected by Senate
• One dean, selected by the Provost
• Three Trustees appointed by the Board of Trustees

Ex-Officio :

• Principal and Vice-Chancellor
• Chair of the Board of Trustees, or delegate
• Rector

The Committee will be chaired by two Co-Chairs, one appointed by Senate and one appointed by the Board of Trustees, as applicable. The term will normally be for two years.
Support for the Committee will be provided by the University Secretariat.
