Type: 100 level
Units: 3.00
Term: Fall 2022
Instructor: Fabio Colivicchi
Delivery: In-Person
This course will provide an introduction to the major aspects of ancient Greek civilization, literature, and culture and to its legacy in our own society. We will look at ancient Greece on its own terms through the examination of primary sources of all types (literary, artistic, archaeological). Although some familiarity with basic chronology will be required, a detailed analysis of political and military history will not be attempted; instead, the emphasis will be placed on the social, cultural, and intellectual development of the peoples of ancient Greece (focusing especially on Athens in the 5th and 4th centuries BCE).
