Awarded on the basis of academic excellence, proven leadership skills, and commitment to the mentoring and development of senior women leaders. Awarded to female students entering the  Executive MBA Americas program in the Smith School of Business.  Application is by letter by May 1. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Executive MBA Americas program in the Smith School of Business.

Established in June 2015 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence, proven leadership skills, and commitment to the mentoring and development of senior women leaders. Awarded to female students entering the Executive MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Application is by letter by June 15. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Executive MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Current Students

Apply for the General Bursary – Available to all Queen’s Students.

MBA and other Smith Master's Program students will automatically be assessed for the MBA named bursaries by submitting a Queen's General Bursary application. Please note: only the name of the award will change after a student has been selected; the value of their bursary will not change depending on the name of the award. 

There is no separate application for these awards.

Catherine Bell & Kent Brown Awakened Company Award

Established in November 2015 by Catherine Bell, NMBA'02, and Kent Brown. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in the Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation program in the Smith School of Business.

Tom Burns Bursary

The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Commerce.

Accelerated MBA Black Canadian Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Black Canadian students entering a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant MBA program. 

Accelerated MBA for Business Graduates Scholarship

Established in April 2004 and last revised in October 2019.  Awarded to outstanding applicants to the Executive MBA Program in the Smith School of Business on the basis of overall quality of the student's application to the program, with particular emphasis placed on their performance on the admissions test.

Accelerated MBA Indigenous Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Indigenous students entering a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant MBA program.

Ian and Maureen Dawson MBA Scholarship

Established in December 2013 by Ian Dawson, MBA 1985, and Maureen Dawson, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the MBA program office.

Dean's MBA Admission Scholarships

Established in November 2004 and revised in June 2015 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Executive MBA Scholarship

Established in April 2004 and last revised in October 2019.  Awarded to outstanding applicants to the Executive MBA Program in the Smith School of Business on the basis of overall quality of the student's application to the program, with particular emphasis placed on their performance on the admissions test.

Executive MBA Americas Scholarship

Federau Kreel MBA Scholarship

Established in October 2013 by Monika Federau, MBA 1988, and awarded on the basis academic excellence to female students who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, entering the full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business, and who do not have their tuition subsidized by their employer. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Queen's full-time MBA program.

Full Time MBA Black Canadian Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Black Canadian students entering a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant MBA program.

Graduate Diploma in Business Scholarship

Established in May 2015 by the Smith School of Business and awarded on the basis of academic excellence and proven leadership skills to students entering the Graduate Diploma in Business in the Smith School of Business.  Selection will be made by the Graduate Diploma in Business Awards Committee in the Smith School of Business.

Jim Leech MBA Scholarship

Established in June 2013 by friends and colleagues in honour of Jim Leech, MBA 1973, in celebration of his retirement from the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Norman MacIntosh MBA Entrance Scholarship

Established in March 2013 by Jos Wintermans, MBA 1972, in honour of Professor N.B. (Norman) Macintosh, widely known and respected accounting scholar, and professor in the School of Business from 1967-1998.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Master of Business Administration Program, Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Master of Finance - Beijing Scholarship

Established in July 2007 and last revised in October 2019.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to outstanding applicants to the Masters of Management program in the Smith School of Business, focusing on the overall quality of the student's application to the program as reflected in the candidate's previous academic performance and standing on the required entrance tests.

MBA 1980 Class Scholarship

Established in January 2005 by the class of MBA 1980 and awarded to a student who has been accepted for admission to one of the MBA programs in the Smith School of Business.  Preference will be given to a student in the Full-time MBA program.  Selection will be made by the Smith School of Business and will be based on overall quality of the application.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant's standing in previous academic studies and performance on standardized admissions tests.

MBA 1981 Entrance Scholarship

Established in October 2006 and last revised in May 2019 by members of the Class of MBA 1981 in recognition of the 25th anniversary of their graduation.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated community leadership to students entering the full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Preference will be given to students who may otherwise not be able to attend the MBA program at the Smith School of Business, as determined by the Smith School of Business Awards Committee and approved by the Associate Dean, MBA programs.

MBA 1987 Admission Scholarship

Established in May 2013 and revised in June 2018 by the Class of MBA 1987, in recognition of their 25th reunion.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

MBA 1988 and MBA 1972 Scholarship

Established in June 2013 by the Class of MBA 1988 and re-named in March 2017 to include the contributions of the Class of MBA 1972. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

MBA Black Canadian Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Black Canadian students entering a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant MBA program.

MBA Indigenous Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Indigenous students entering a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant MBA program.

Ralph M. Barford MBA Opportunities Scholarship

Established in November 2013 and last revised in December 2020 by the Ralph M. Barford Foundation. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business from a non-traditional employment and/or education background. Preference will be given to students who would not otherwise be able to attend the MBA program at the Smith School of Business without the funding provided by this scholarship as determined by the Awards Committee of the Smith School of Business full-time MBA program. Preference may also be given to students entering the program who are from a location with a population of less than 500,000 (as defined by Statistics Canada). Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Smith School of Business Full-time MBA program.

Len Morrow MBA Scholarship

Established in April 2011 by Len Morrow, M.B.A. 1972, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence and leadership potential to female students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Roozen Family MBA Scholarship 

Established in November 2022 by Harold Roozen, MBA 1979, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Preference will be given in the following order of priority: (1) to students from the province of Alberta; (2) to students from the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or the Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Smith School of Business Full-time MBA program. 

Scotiabank Innovators Scholarship

Established in December 2016 by Bensimon Byrne to honour their partnership with Scotiabank. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Master of Management Analytics program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Masters of Management Analytics Admissions Committee.

Smith Graduate Diploma in Business Black Canadian Scholarship

Established in June 2021 by the Smith School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Black Canadian students entering a Graduate Diploma  program in the Smith School of Business. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the relevant Graduate Diploma program.

Stephen J. R. Smith MBA Scholarships

Established in October 2015 by Stephen J.R. Smith, BSc(Eng)'72, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Liana Tesan Memorial Scholarship

Established in September 2016 by family and friends in memory of Liana Tesan, AMBA 2008. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Preference will be given to female students. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

Tom Burns MBA Prize in International Business

Established by the family and friends of Tom Burns, Commerce '47, and awarded to a graduating MBA student on the basis of overall academic excellence with particular emphasis on the core courses in International Business.

Elizabeth W. Hand Memorial Award in Smith School of Business

Established by friends of Elizabeth Warren Hand in her memory and in recognition of her concern for the growth and welfare of all students in the Smith School of Business at Queen's University. Awarded annually on the basis of general standing to a Master of Business Administration student.

John & Helen McKay Scholarship

Established in July 2011 and revised in November 2017 by John, MBA 1971, and Helen McKay and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to two students graduating from the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business. Preference will be given to students from the Atlantic Provinces.  Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.

D. D. Monieson MBA Scholarship

Established in October 2006 in honour of Professor Emeritus D.D. Monieson, to encourage the application of technology to solving business problems. Awarded to a graduating student team (or teams) in the MBA Program in the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, which has embraced the team-learning model and applied the management tools and skills to become a peer exemplar. Each student may nominate one team, excluding his/her own, to be a recipient of the award. The Director and the Assistant Director also get one vote each. In the event of a tie, the decision will be made by the Awards Committee of the MBA Program.

Noranda Sales Corporation/William G. Deeks Award

Established by Noranda Sales Corporation to recognize the leadership and long standing contribution of their former president, William G. Deeks.  Awarded annually to the student with the highest standing in the elective courses in strategy in the Full-time MBA program in the Smith School of Business.  Preference is given to the student whose focus is on natural resource and mineral economics issues.
