Future Undergraduate Students

No Application Required

Students who apply to Queen's University will be automatically considered for the following awards. Most of these awards are based on academic achievement. Students will not be eligible for more than one merit-based award.

  • When you receive your offer of admission, you will be notified if you are selected to receive an automatic admission award or scholarship
  • Some automatic admission scholarships are renewable and have specific conditions you must meet in order to renew
  • We offer additional automatic admission awards to international students
  • We also offer automatic admission awards to specific students, such as part-time students, consecutive education students, student athletes, Queen's alumnae, mature women students, Indigenous students, Black and racialized students, and students with disabilities
  • You do not need to apply for these awards

As a future Queen’s student, you have lots of options for financial aid, including options that require an application.

Eligibility

To be eligible for most admission awards you must be:

  • Entering the first year of post-secondary education for the first time in a full-time (minimum 60% course load) undergraduate degree program on Queen's campus or at the Bader College. Graduates from a 2-year CEGEP program transferring into their first year of a Queen's program remain eligible for grade-based admission scholarships
  • Students with prior post-secondary education are not eligible for Queen's admission awards
  • Domestic (Canadian citizens, permanent residents) and international students (including U.S. students) will be considered for automatic grade-based admission scholarships
  • International and U.S. students should also visit the International and U.S. Students section for more information on additional Admission Awards
  • Queen's will calculate an awards average based on grades available at the time you are offered admission
    • Final grades will be assessed for scholarship and award consideration for those students who accept their offer of admission to Queen's
    • If you do not receive a scholarship offer at the time you were offered admission, we will review your final grades after we have received final grade reports from the Ontario Universities' Application Centre in July
    • Summer courses taken in the summer immediately prior to your admit term to the university will not be used in the assessment of your final grade average

Note: To receive and remain eligible to retain an admission scholarship/award in the academic year granted, the student must be admitted and registered as a full-time student in the fall/winter academic year.

If you have been granted a renewable academic based award, to remain eligible for renewal of the award you are expected to:

  • Remain registered in an 80% course load (typically 24 units in fall/winter)
  • Achieve a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5

Please note that not all academic based awards are renewable, refer to the award terms on SOLUS or Financial Aid and Awards website to confirm if your Queen’s award is renewable. Review the Queen’s Renewable Awards Policy for further details.

Note: The academic guideline listed for the major admission awards is not based on the awards average as outlined above.
