2026 Move-Out

Thank you for being part of our community.

It’s hard to believe your time in Queen's Residence is coming to an end soon! We encourage you to prepare for move-out ahead of time.

To maintain a quiet study environment for all students during the exam period, you are required to move out of residence by 3 pm the day following your last scheduled exam. If you are writing on April 22, you will be required to leave by 1 pm on Thursday, April 23.

Residence will close at 1 pm on April 23. The last meal served will be brunch on April 23.

Extended Quiet Hours

Quiet Hours are in effect from April 4–23.

Exam Quiet Hours will begin on Saturday, April 4, at midnight and run for 22 hours each day. Courtesy Hours are from 7–9 pm daily.

You are required to be mindful of the impact your noise may have on your fellow students’ studies, sleep, and exam preparation. Please respect requests to refrain from making noise during quiet hours.

Move-Out Process & Extensions

You must move out by 3 pm on the day following your final exam. Should you wish to stay beyond this time, you can:

  1. Submit an extension request to stay until residence closure on April 23 at 1 pm.
  2. Submit a stayover request to stay in residence until April 26 at 12 pm noon. After this time, students will be required to relocate to Summer Accommodation.

If you're looking for an extension or stayover, you will need to submit a request through the new Housing and Ancillary Services Portal. You can submit requests up until April 16 at 12 pm noon.

Dining Hall & Meal Plan Details

All meal plans and/or any TAM portion of unused plans expire when you hand in your keys at the end of the academic year. They are non-refundable and cannot be carried over into a new term. Flex $ will carry over into the 2026–27 academic year. Learn more about your Residence Meal Plan

Dining hall and retail hours are changing. Check out our Hours at a Glance page to plan ahead!

Consider donating an unused dining hall meal to a peer in need before leaving campus with Swipe It Forward. Please remember that once you hand in your keys and check out of residence, your meal plan will be deactivated.

Return your GOOD TO GO reusable container and receive $5 Flex. Participating locations TBA.

Start Preparing!

Your time to move out can sneak up on you. We encourage you to prepare well in advance by setting aside a few hours each week for decluttering and packing, familiarizing yourself with key dates and donation options, and coordinating any travel or logistical plans.

Don’t want to take everything home with you? Please donate to a bin nearest you, or participate in the Second-Hand Shuffle! Learn more in the Wasteless Move-Out section below.

If you have someone picking you up, remind them that unattended vehicles in traffic circles (fire routes) will be ticketed. There can be heavy traffic on peak move-out days, so make sure your belongings are packed well in advance of their arrival so you can move them out quickly and be on your way.

If you have a flight or other travel arrangements, make sure you have everything you need for travel set aside, such as your passport or other travel documents.

If your room needs any repairs, you must submit a Maintenance Request Order now to allow our team enough time to address any necessary repairs and ensure that your room meets the move-out requirements; otherwise, you may be charged a $120 Improper Check Out fee or a Damage Fee.

You can do this through the Student Residence & Dining Portal.

While many volunteers were available to assist with move-in, they are also students writing exams and are unable to assist with move-out. You will need to move your own belongings, and a limited number of carts will be available at your front desk to help with your move.

Set aside a few hours each week for decluttering and packing. Help yourself to free boxes available at all three dining halls, Lazy Scholar, Location 21, and Wally’s.

You will not be able to store items in residence after your check-out date, so please ensure your room is left in the condition it was when you moved in.

Take responsibility for donating, trading, upcycling, and recycling your unwanted items. If possible, consider sending home items you don’t regularly use to make your April move-out go more smoothly.

Please donate any non-perishable food items and gently used clothing or shoes to a drop-off location nearest you, and participate in the Second-Hand Shuffle to donate other usable items to students in need. Learn more in the Wasteless Move-Out section below.

Ensure your room is clean, all garbage has been removed and furniture has been returned to its original location. Room damages and cleaning costs will be assessed after you move out and will be reflected on your SOLUS account. All occupants in a multi-occupancy room will be equally responsible for any costs.

  • All posters and/or decorations need to be removed, including tape or other adhesives.
  • Vacuum the carpet and/or sweep the floor.
  • Remove all garbage and recyclable items, and dispose of them properly in the garbage rooms.

Wasteless Move-Out

Support our community’s efforts to be sustainable. Take responsibility for donating, trading, and recycling unwanted items. If you don’t want to take everything home, please donate items that others can use. Please don’t donate garbage. Some items do belong in the garbage, such as broken or soiled items that can’t be recycled or composted.

What to Donate and Where

Donate gently used clothing and shoes: Every common room, laundry room, and garbage room has bags that you can use for your clothing and shoe donations. Drop-off locations are listed below.

Donate non-clothing items: Consider participating in the Second-Hand Shuffle to donate usable, unwanted items such as printers, bookshelves, sports equipment, mirrors, or kitchen equipment, and pick up any items you may need for free.

Donate non-perishable food items: Please consider donating your non-perishable food items to the food bank. Collections are taking place in the Lazy Scholar and Location 21.

Recycle: Use the recycling depot in your building until the end of term – any recyclable items or garbage left in your room or hallway will result in clean-up charges. If you have any questions, please call the Facilities Control Centre at 613-533-3155.
