YEAR IN REVIEW: Bevy of awards for Queen's in 2014

A number of Queen’s faculty earned prestigious awards throughout 2014, including a record number being elected to the Royal Society of Canada.

Recognition came in many forms and at various levels; all of them were exciting for the recipients as well as the Queen’s community.

The Gazette takes a quick look at some of those awards:

Sweet sounds of success

The Queen’s Conservatory of Music is working with the Joe Chithalen Memorial Instrument Lending Library (Joe’s MILL) and First Avenue Public School to launch Sistema Kingston. The after-school music program for at-risk children focuses on positive social change through the pursuit of musical excellence.

Going beyond the books

For graduate students juggling research, writing and teaching, finding time to get job experience can be tough. To help students get a leg up, the Department of English Language and Literature have another option in the curriculum: internships.

Making it all add up

“So what are you going to do with your degree?”

It’s a common question at many holiday gatherings every year, often causing consternation among students who worry they don’t have the skills or experience to land a job in the competitive workforce.
