Steven Maynard’s courses in Canadian history are “not your typical history classes.”
Instead of relying on textbooks or readings regarding the past, with students handing in a paper or writing an exam, Mr. Maynard develops a project based around a particular segment of Canadian history that requires students to research, create and present.
Faculty of Arts and Science introduces two new plans
Following an already busy year filled with launching new initiatives, an additional two new plans are being introduced by the Faculty of Arts and Science for the 2017-18 academic year, just in time for plan selection for first-year students.
Queen’s Truth and Reconciliation Task Force Report
The Queen’s task force formed in April 2016 to begin the work of responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report on the history and legacy of Canada’s residential school system for Aboriginal children.

Senate approves Fall Term Break
Queen’s University will implement a two-day fall term break for students enrolled in the four direct-entry undergraduate programs. The break will take effect in the 2018-19 academic year.
At the Top of the Class
Queen’s professor James Fraser (Physics, Engineering Physics and Astronomy) has received the prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). Dr. Fraser is the eighth Queen’s professor to be made a 3M Fellow, with the most recent being John Smol (Biology) in 2009.
